| VoIP is the new way to place and receive phone calls. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and is a technical way of saying “using the Internet for making telephone calls.” VoIP technology converts regular (or analog) phone calls into data (or digital) and zips them through your high-speed Internet connection.
Over your high-speed Internet connection, a VoIP phone service provider can combine domestic US local and long distance calls for one low monthly rate. Most VOIP phone service providers even offer unlimited local and long distance calling, plus great features like Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voicemail, “Locate Me”, “Do Not Disturb”, Call Conferencing, and many more features—free of charge.
You must choose and subscribe to a VoIP phone service plan available from the designated VoIP phone service provider(s) and have a high-speed Internet connection. VoIP phone service plans, rates and features may vary depending on the VoIP phone service provider selected.
Note that an electrical power outage or a broadband provider outage will prevent operation of the VoIP phone, including for emergency purposes (e.g. calling 911).
